Beyond These Walls embodies our desire to faithfully live out God’s call to make disciples, love our neighbors, and send leaders like never before.

In order to accomplish this vision, we’ve committed ourselves to retiring the remaining debt on our building which will enable us to throw our energy and resources into ministry beyond these walls.

We have heard God’s voice in Philippians 2:4, where the apostle Paul calls the followers of Jesus to “look not only to their own interests, but to the interest of others.” We continue to imagine what it would look like if we, the people of Chapel Hill, increasingly turned our hearts beyond these walls to the needs of others.

Surely we would selflessly love our community like never before.

Surely we would send leaders who pursue God’s call for his Kingdom.

And surely we would make disciples who bring Christ into every corner of our city.

We have found ways to use resources that have already been entrusted to us in order to go beyond these walls; imagine how much more we can do when the debt is completely paid off!

Here are some practical ways we imagine God is leading us to accomplish our goals:

Love our neighbors

Chapel Hill has always been engaged beyond our walls. The Purdy Prison ministry, Titus, Alpha, World Relief shed projects, the WIC Food and Nutrition Service, and Lighthouse Christian School are but a few of the local ways we have engaged beyond our walls. God is calling us to be more intentional with how we love our community.

Our vision:

  • Free up resources to help local and regional organizations who have approached us for partnership—without gain or glory for ourselves, but only for love of Christ and community.
  • Empower and equip our people to show Christ’s love to our South Sound neighbors.
Send leaders

Chapel Hill is committed to leadership development. But we need to do more! We have raised up 15 people who have felt God's call of ordained pastoral ministry. Imagine how that number would grow if we intentionally embraced this vision as a congregation? What a blessing it would be to Christ’s Church for us to be able to help even more recognize that call and respond to it!

    • Raising up church-planting interns for multiplying churches.
    • Helping more people who feel called to ordained pastoral ministry recognize their call and respond to it.
    • Developing a new approach to pastoral training.
Make disciples

Making disciples is a major part of our church's mission, and LifeGroups are where our vision for disciple-making hits the ground. We believe that LifeGroups are the future of Chapel Hill and desire that every member of our congregation is a part of one. But we have expanded that vision to include focusing more on our weekend worship services, baptisms, and Alpha as a way to make disciples, too!

  • Shifting our focus to our weekend gatherings as our primary “front door” and making sure people have clear next steps.
    • Emphasizing the importance of baptism and creating more intentional baptism events throughout the year.
    • Providing more occasions for people to ask penetrating faith questions together at Alpha.
    • Providing greater oversight to our Lifegroups, training dozens more leaders, and forming new LifeGroups out of existing ones.

A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR MARK

Dear Chapel Hill Family,

For 55 years, our sweetheart church has existed for the purpose of fearlessly and faithfully proclaiming the love of Christ to our neighbors in Gig Harbor and the South Sound, making disciples that make disciples, and sending those disciples into our community and the world with that same life-changing message.

The Beyond These Walls initiative is a vision for the future of our ministry at Chapel Hill.

We want to faithfully live out God’s call to make disciples, send leaders, and love our neighbors in greater measure. In order to accomplish this vision, we intend to retire the remaining debt on our building which will enable us to throw our energy and resources into ministry beyond these walls like never before.

We want 100-percent participation on this initiative. That’s why I’m asking you to be a vital part. I truly believe, along with the Session, staff, and other key leaders of Chapel Hill, that the Beyond These Walls initiative will dramatically increase our missional impact. But I need your help to bring this dream to life. I invite you to join Cyndi and me in prayerfully considering how God is calling you to be a part of this collective mission to go beyond these walls in order to make disciples that make history.

Your brother in Christ,
Pastor Mark
