Son of Encouragement | Acts 4:32-37 | Chapel Hill Church Gig Harbor
As we dive deeper into Acts, we discover Barnabas was more than just a companion. πβ¨ He was a respected spiritual leader in Antioch, the first gentile church and a major missionary hub. πβͺ In Acts 13:1, Barnabas is listed first among the prophets and teachers, a place of honor. π₯
Barnabas and Saul (later Paul) were set apart for the first missionary journey, with Barnabas leading. βοΈπ But soon, Paul emerged as the dominant leader, and Barnabas humbly stepped into the background. π€π₯
Barnabas was fiercely loyal. When John Mark abandoned their mission, Barnabas wanted to give him a second chance, but Paul disagreed. πΆββοΈπ’ This disagreement led to their separation, with Barnabas taking Mark under his wing. πΏ
Years later, Paul, in prison, recognized Mark’s value, proving Barnabas right. πβ¨ Barnabas, born Joseph, was nicknamed “Son of Encouragement” for his generosity, leadership, humility, and loyalty. πβ€οΈ
The world needs more encouragers like Barnabas! ππ
