When Christmas is Over but the Stress Isn’t
By Ellis White, Senior Pastor
The Christmas decorations are still up, the tree needles are still in the carpet, and the credit card statement has already arrived…uninvited.
December may be over, but the financial decisions we made during it are very much still with us.
Somewhere between “It’s Christmas! It only happens once a year” and “We’ll deal with it in January,” the line between generosity and overspending got blurry. And now here we are—January 2—staring at a fresh calendar while wondering why the new year already feels heavy.
If that’s you, you’re not alone.
When a Fresh Start Still Feels Stressful
The new year promises clarity and control. New calendars. New goals. New intentions.
But money anxiety doesn’t magically reset at midnight.
Jesus spoke directly to that kind of weight when he said,
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…For the pagans run after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.” (Matthew 6:25, 32)
Jesus isn’t minimizing real needs or real responsibilities. He’s naming something deeper: the way worry creeps in when money quietly becomes our source of security.
The issue isn’t that we care about money. It’s that money so easily becomes the thing we trust to give us peace. And when it can’t carry that weight, stress fills the gap.
Our anxiety often reveals more than our bank statements. It shows us what’s carrying the weight of our trust.
A Different Kind of New Year
What if this year isn’t about trying harder, but about living freer?
Starting this Sunday, January 4, we’re beginning a new series called Unchained: Living Free in a World of Financial Stress.
This series is for anyone who wants to:
- feel less anxious and more at peace about money
- stop living under the pressure of “just a little more”
- align their finances with what they actually believe
- start the year with clarity instead of quiet fear
Over four weeks, we’ll talk honestly about money—not with guilt or pressure, but with grace and wisdom rooted in Scripture. We’ll explore why money so easily tightens its grip on our hearts, and how Jesus invites us into a way of living marked by trust, peace, and joy.
Start the Year With Us
If Christmas spending left you uneasy…
If the new year already feels heavier than you hoped…
If you’re longing for peace more than promises…
We’d love for you to join us this Sunday. For those who want to go deeper, we’ve also created an Unchained Workbook designed to walk alongside the series with Scripture, reflection, and practical next steps. You can pre-order your copy now and have it ready to pick up this Sunday.
The new year doesn’t have to begin with shame or stress.
It can begin with freedom.
We hope you’ll come take this journey with us—starting Sunday.
