An Invitation to the Wounded Healers Among Us

An Invitation to the Wounded Healers Among Us

By Katie Nelson
Director of Care Ministries

“When our wounds cease to be a source of shame and become a source of healing, we have become wounded healers.”
—Henri Nouwen, The Wounded Healer

Each of us carries wounds—whether from living in a broken world, from the hurt caused by others, from our own choices, or from the enemy of our souls. What we choose to do with those wounds will shape the trajectory of our lives.

At Chapel Hill, our Care Ministry offers lay counseling and support groups for those courageous enough to pursue healing. Every member of our Care Team has experienced their own woundedness, yet we are continually bringing our pain to Jesus, the Healer, and allowing ourselves to be formed by his deep love. That’s why we call ourselves Wounded Healers.

This fall, we’re offering an opportunity for others to join us in this work. Beginning September 9, our Lay Counseling Team will launch an eight-month training program, meeting weekly on Tuesdays from 6:30–9:00 pm in the upstairs conference room. This training covers both mental and emotional health practices as well as spiritual formation.

Our team serves not only those within our church, but also people from the greater community. If you sense God prompting you to step into this calling, we invite you to prayerfully consider joining us.
