Silent Night | Luke 2:15-20 | Chapel Hill Church Gig Harbor

In December of 1914, in the middle of World War I, enemy soldiers laid down their weapons after hearing a song sung across the battlefield: Silent Night. What followed became known as the Christmas Truce—a moment when peace broke into a broken world, not through politics or power, but through worship.

In this Christmas message, Pastor Julie Hawkins traces the remarkable history of Silent Night—from a small Austrian village to the trenches of war—and connects it to the original Christmas story in Luke 2. Through the responses of the shepherds, the crowd, and Mary, we see four ways ordinary people encounter the miracle of Jesus’ birth: Witness, Wonder, Ponder, and Praise.

This sermon is an invitation to see how God works through ordinary people, simple moments, and everyday faith—and how the peace announced on that first Christmas night still meets us in the middle of our lives today.
