Congregational Meeting Feb 2026

Congregational Meeting Feb 2026

At our congregational meeting on Sunday, February 1, 2026, we prayerfully consider and vote on nominees for the offices of Elder and Deacon. Scripture reminds us that church leadership is not about status or authority, but about faithful service, spiritual maturity, and love for Christ and his people. Each of the individuals below has been nominated because they are known among us, have demonstrated Christlike character, and have expressed a willingness to serve the church in these important roles. We invite you to read their bios, pray for them, and join us as we seek the Spirit’s guidance together.

Only members of Chapel Hill Church may vote in the meeting. (A member is someone who has attended a Chapel Hill membership class, met with a pastor, and taken Chapel Hill membership vows.)

If you would like to nominate someone for the office of Elder or Deacon, please use the form below.

Elders

Chip Slothower

I believe that Jesus is my Lord and savior. Becky and I have watched our six kids grow up at Chapel Hill over the past 26 years. I was blessed to serve as a sitting Elder for nine of those years and have been involved in youth ministry, LifeGroups, Vacation Bible School, and other areas of church life. I spent 27 years as a firefighter, and while the schedule was often challenging, God recently blessed me with the opportunity to retire. I now have more time for family, ministry, and a new role in real estate. Chapel Hill has been central to our family’s life, and I would be honored to serve again.

Bart Brynstad

I am honored and excited to serve Chapel Hill and the Lord on Session. I love Jesus and desire to serve and honor him well. My wife of 42 years, Berta, and I have been members of Chapel Hill for 30 years. We have four adult children and are blessed with thirteen wonderful grandchildren. I am recently retired from a career in construction and development and am embracing this season with a focus on faith, family, and fun—building a tree fort, driving grandkids to school, and spending time with my wife. I serve in two Bible study groups, on faith-based nonprofit boards, and have previously served on Session.

Kay Griffin

My husband John and I have been married for fifty-two years. I spent twenty-five years as a special education teacher, and together we raised two children who have blessed us with four grandchildren, with our first great-grandson on the way. I previously served multiple terms as a Ruling Elder at Grace EPC, where I also led women’s Bible studies and served in worship planning and music leadership. Since coming to Chapel Hill three years ago, I have been involved in choir, serve as a LifeGroup leader, and lead the Tuesday night prayer gathering. I seek the Spirit’s leading as I consider this next chapter of service.

Jed Powell

Nanci and I have been married for 49 years and are the proud parents of three sons and one daughter, all married, who have blessed us with eleven grandchildren so far. I have practiced law for 43 years, including the past nine years as a trial lawyer here in the Harbor. Nanci served as a school nurse in the Peninsula School District until her retirement in 2023. We began attending Chapel Hill during COVID and were grateful for the church’s confidence in God’s sovereignty during that season. We joined Chapel Hill in 2022, and two of our sons and their families are regular attenders here as well. We love the balcony. I am honored, humbled, and grateful to be considered for eldership.

Marc Heaney

My wife, Christie, and I have been married for 21 years and have called Chapel Hill our church home since moving here in 2007. We are grateful for the relationships we’ve built and for the ways we’ve seen the Lord work through his people. Our two daughters have grown up at Chapel Hill, and we are thankful for those who have loved and discipled them along the way. We serve in a variety of ministries including kids’ worship, greeting, music, mission trips, and LifeGroups. I spent 20 years teaching fourth and fifth grade and currently serve as Director of Human Resources at Lighthouse Christian School. I am humbled to be nominated.

Deacons

Carol Currie

I became a member of Chapel Hill in 1994, and even while living away from Gig Harbor, Chapel Hill remained close to my heart. I joyfully returned in June 2023 and am grateful to once again call Chapel Hill my home church. My professional years were spent in special education and tutoring children with dyslexia. I have two children and five grandchildren. I enjoy volunteering with Alpha, participating in Cornerstones, and serving in the Benevolence ministry. I look forward to continuing to be part of God’s work at Chapel Hill.
