Jump-Starting Your Prayer Life

Jump-Starting Your Prayer Life

I’ll admit it: I was nervous last summer as we approached our Year of Prayer. I always have September Jitters, but the idea of spending a whole year preaching and teaching on prayer when, in fact, my own prayer life could be described as spotty… that made me really jittery.

Then I shared an experience with the rest of the pastoral team that jump-started my own prayer life and was an incredible blessing to all of us.

It was a two-day long prayer retreat led by a team of Chapel Hill lay folk who are passionate about prayer. I wondered how I would do, praying for two days straight. But the leadership team broke those days into sections that made it easier to digest. Kind of like eating a magnificent feast in courses. Each of the prayer “courses” was so tasty, I found myself eager for what would be served next.

It was such a blessing for us, the pastoral team, to be taught and led by our godly, prayerful church members. We felt loved and served by them. And the two days flew by!

In the end, I felt so filled and fed that I was eager to launch into a church-wide focus on having a more intimate and powerful relationship with God… which is really what prayer is all about.

I also felt like others in the church ought to have a chance to experience what was such a blessing to your pastors.

So on Saturday, November 5 we will offer a one-day version of this prayer retreat. It will be held at All Saints Center on Raft Island.  The cost will be $20 all-inclusive. This is a first-come, first-served basis, and we will limit the attendance to the first 50 registrants. It will begin with a pastoral welcome and end with communion led by a pastor, but in between you will be led by the same team that blessed your pastors.

You may register HERE. I know that 50 Chapel Hill men and women are going to find their prayer life jump-started, as I did.  Don’t miss it.
