Emergency shelter
TEAM PURPOSE:
Chapel Hill partners with the City of Gig Harbor, Peirce County Department of Emergency Management and the Red Cross to provide Sheltering/Cooling/Warming services to the community during times of emergency.
Chapel Hill Emergency Shelter volunteers serve as Host(s) during Emergency Shelter, Cooling/Warming Center activations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist staff during shelter activations; set-up & tear-down
- Serve as Host during Cooling/Warming Center activations
- Complete Intake forms for clients during Shelter activations
- Other duties as outlined in the Shelter procedures
SPIRITUAL & PRACTICAL QUALIFICATIONS
As a Chapel Hill Emergency Shelter Volunteer, you generally need to be dependable, able to relate well to others, and help create a compassionate environment, especially when working with vulnerable populations. Volunteers need to be willing to pass a background check. You must also attend any required training and adhere to all shelter rules and safety protocols.
TIME COMMITMENT
Hours are based on Shelter or Cooling/Warming Center activations, and may vary significantly, based on the need during natural disasters, or on weather conditions.
