JUSTICE & RELIEF--LOCAL

KAIROS Ministries
Kairos Prison Ministry is an ecumenical volunteer organization ministering to incarcerated individuals, their families, and those who work with them through monthly ministry programs as well as bi-annual retreat weekends, described as short courses in Christianity. During retreat weekends hundreds of dozens of home-made cookies are given to inmates to demonstrate the love of Christ through Christian strangers.

Purdy Prison Ministries
Purdy Prison Ministry consists of regular volunteers from Chapel Hill who organize several ministries at the Women’s Correctional Center in Purdy, WA. These ministries include chapel services held every Sunday evening, monthly playdays for mothers and their children, a homework center, several parties throughout the year for special events, a clothing closet for every released inmate to receive business attire, and several gifts-in-kind drives throughout the year.

Tacoma Street Ministries
Tacoma Street Ministries serves the homeless and low-income families of Tacoma by bringing together volunteers on Friday and Saturday nights to hand out food, blankets and clothes under the 705-freeway overpass. 100-300 people may be served any night. CHPC organizes a “3rd Friday group” of volunteers to participate in this ministry.

International Justice Mission
The International Justice Mission takes referrals from overseas missionaries and relief and development workers when they encounter cases of abuses and injustices (i.e. children forced into prostitution, children sold into slavery, street children abused by authorities, men and women held in illegal detention) in the communities where they are serving, and they cannot rely on local authorities for help and relief. After receiving the referrals, IJM investigators conduct thorough, complete, professional and confidential investigations to document the abuses.

Medical Teams International
Medical Teams International seeks to demonstrate the love of Christ to those in crisis by sending volunteer medical and emergency response teams, distributing humanitarian aid, and providing community development and children’s ministry programs.
