COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT--LOCAL

Habitat for Humanity Int’l
Habitat for Humanity brings families in need together with community volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable housing. Recently, a Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula Chapter was formed as part of the Tacoma/Pierce County Affiliate to focus on the needs of families on the two peninsulas. Three major criteria are used in selecting Habitat families: level of need, ability to repay loan, and willingness to partner. The local chapter has secured several parcels of land and have completed seven homes on the peninsula.

Trinity Presbyterian Church
Trinity Presbyterian Church ministers to the disadvantaged in the Hilltop district of Tacoma. Trinity is committed to living out the gospel in the heart of the city.

Bob and his family have committed to serve in the church for three years. Bob Bronkema is the Pastor, while Stacy is assisting in planning and organizing their many programs. Their girls, Rachel, Naomi and Bethany are committed to serving with their parents in the church and will attend Hinkson Christian Academy.

Agros Foundation, Villa Hortencial 1, Guatemala
Agros International is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty for rural families in Central America and Mexico by enabling landless communities to achieve land ownership and economic stability. Having learned that the root causes of poverty extend across communities and are passed down from generation to generation, the Agros development model is holistic, sustainable, and focused on long term results. This commitment to the long-term sustainability of a whole community serves to break the cycle of poverty in all its forms. Chapel Hill, along with two other partners, is beginning a 5 year commitment of Journey With a Village for Villa Hortencial 1.

World Vision
World Vision is a relief and development organization serving the world’s poor and displaced without regard to religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background. What began as one man's vision of a world without hunger, disease, and hopelessness, has grown into the world's largest Christian international relief and development agency. World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God. Chapel Hill is involved with World Vision in a variety of ways especially in their Hope Initiative for the AIDS crisis in Africa and their work in the Middle East.
