Sound & Sand Encounter: Bridging the Divide
Chapel Hill's partnership with Musalaha
August 2010 and April 2011

Chapel Hill is joining with Musalaha Ministries in a partnership that is focused on equipping young adults to be agents of reconciliation.  Ultimately our hope is to see followers of Christ involved in breaking down walls between Christians in the land of Jesus. To this end, we will gather 30 college age students here in Gig Harbor August 1-12, 2010 (10 Messianic Jewish Christians from Israel, 10 Palestinian Christians and 10 Christians from our own community).

These 30 young adults will live together, camp and hike together, and learn to talk and listen to each other. April 14-26, 2011, the same 30 young adults will participate in a reunion at Camp Wadi Rum in the Jordanian Desert. (The Americans will spend the first week of this reunion exploring the sights and wonders of Israel and the Palestinian Territories.)

American young adults interested in participating should read through the Encounter Requirements Q&A. The initial application deadline is March 15, 2010

You and your family can be a part of the Sound and Sand Encounter!

Opportunities include:

Host Family – Do you love hospitality? Are you adventurous and available? Do you have an extra room for two? We are looking for host families to house two students, one Israeli and one Palestinian Sunday, August 8 through Thursday August 12. Host families will be required to have an interview and attend cross-cultural training in May.

Welcoming Transportation Committee – Would you like to coordinate the comings and goings of 40 young adults? Meet international guests at the airport and welcome them? Or would you be available for carpooling? May we contact you for last minute ride needs? This includes driving to and from the airport, to Mt. Rainier, around Gig Harbor and other activities.

Sponsor a Student – It costs $3000 for a Young Adult to be a part of the Sound and Sand Encounter. Would you please consider sponsoring a student?

Prayer – We have a prayer team being led by Sue Unterbrink. Would you like to be a part of this vital aspect to make Sound and Sand Encounter a success?
