Contact the Chapel Hill Missions department We want to help you! It is our goal to provide an array of volunteer opportunities one of which will be the right match for your talents and gifts. We are familiar with our missions partners and will be able to suggest what options might work best for you.
Do your research Check out the opportunities we list and look at their websites, talk to their volunteer coordinator, or visit them before making a final commitment.
Know what you want to do Take some time to think about how you want to help. What do you like to do? What are you good at? What issues concern you? When you call or are contacted…
Ask questions It's best to ask any questions you have when you first call. This way both you and the organization can determine whether you are a good match.
Be persistent If somebody doesn't call you back immediately, don't assume you aren't needed. Most organizations have small budgets and staffs to handle overwhelming demands, and they are usually very busy. If you don't hear from someone in a reasonable amount of time, simply call back. Be responsible Show up on time, let people know if you're not coming, and follow through with your commitments.
Be humble Remember that your service is for God. Most people will thank you for your efforts, but some may not. People often appreciate your efforts even if they don't specifically say so.
Be creative Volunteer your skills and ideas as well as your time. Think about all the ways you can use your unique talents to make a difference.
