why GO? PDF Print E-mail

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20

Chapel Hill sees short-term mission trips as a crucial part of developing a mission-minded congregation. We call our teams GO (Global Outreach) Teams and take Matthew 28:19-20 as our theme. In these verses God tells us to go and to teach, and He says that He will be with us.

  1. GO—God first calls us to GO. He may not tell us right away where or when, but He definitely tells us to GO. GO also stands for Global Outreach. Global can mean your neighborhood, your state, or the farthest place you can think of. All of these places are mission fields, and we are here to help you be the best missionary you can be.
  2. TEACHING—We believe that everyone has something to teach others, though often not in the formal sense of the word “teach.” No matter what a GO team “does” while they are in the field, they are always teaching by example. We send GO teams with confidence that the character, countenance, attitude and work ethic they exhibit will shine as lights wherever they are. In addition, those whom they encounter also teach. Teams often return feeling that they have received much more than they have given. Participating on a GO team is a tender balance of opening your hands to offer all that you have and receiving holy moments that are often completely unexpected in return.
  3. WITH YOU—Traveling, crossing unknown borders, and encountering strangers in today’s world can be frightening. But we believe that God holds each of our GO teams in the palm of His hand. Teams are prayed for diligently by our Chapel Hill family. They keep in contact with the Missions staff as much as possible throughout their journey. Though we cannot guarantee that illness, lost baggage, or stolen cameras will not be a part of a GO team’s experience, we are certain that God is in control of each and every moment.

The Chapel Hill Missions staff is here to provide anyone that is interested in joining a GO team with the information, resources, and encouragement to do so. From the moment your application is turned in to the last debrief meeting upon your team’s return, we want to make sure that your process has been the best it can possibly be.

We will explain your options and help you find a trip that matches your passions, skills and availability. We offer fundraising opportunities so that money is never an issue when it comes to deciding on a trip. We will provide training and debriefing sessions for your team so that you will feel as prepared as you can be and so that when you return you will know what to do with the experience you have had.

So take a look at some of our trip options, fill out our GO team application, or give us a call to ask questions. We will be happy to help you take that first step. Welcome to the adventure…
