Interested in hearing more of Professor John Lennox?
The Fixed Point Foundation is an American-based Christian organization dedicated to exploring the big ideas around faith and culture. In recent years it's taken on some of the world's most outspoken critics of the Christian faith, from Christopher Hitchens to Richard Dawkins. Recently, they staged a feisty bout between Australian bio-ethicist and atheist Peter Singer and Oxford Maths Professor and Christian John Lennox.
While the event stayed polite and peaceful there were some heavy intellectual punches thrown.

John Lennox is Professor of Mathematics in the University of Oxford, Fellow in Mathematics and the Philosophy of Science, and Pastoral Advisor at Green Templeton College, Oxford. He is also an adjunct Lecturer at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford University and at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and is a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum. He also teaches for the Oxford Strategic Leadership Program at the Executive Education Centre, Said Business School, Oxford University.

In addition to over seventy published mathematical papers, he is the co-author of two research level texts in algebra in the Oxford Mathematical Monographs series. One of his recent books, on the interface between science, philosophy and theology, is God's Undertaker: Has Science Buried God? (Oxford, Lion-Hudson 2009). He has lectured extensively in North America and Eastern and Western Europe on mathematics, the philosophy of science and the intellectual defense of Christianity. Lennox's latest book, Seven Days that Divide the World: The Beginning According to Genesis and Science, was released in August 2011.

His hobbies are languages, amateur astronomy, amateur bird-watching and some walking. John is married to Sally, has three grown children and four grandchildren. He lives near Oxford. Read more about Professor Lennox.

What is apologetics? Apologetics is the branch of Christianity that deals with the defense and establishment of the Christian faith. The word does not mean "to apologize," but derives its meaning from the Greek apologia, meaning "a reasoned defense."

In the Bible, apologetics is synonymous with evangelism:
But in your hearts, set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer [apologia] to everyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that you have, but do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience.
1 Peter 3:15-16
