Does God still heal today?

Does God still heal today?

I once heard a story about an avid duck hunter who was in the market for a new bird dog. His search ended when he found a dog that could actually walk on water to retrieve a duck. Shocked by his find, he was sure none of his friends would ever believe him.

He decided to try to break the news to a friend of his, a pessimist by nature, and invited him to hunt with him and his new dog.

As they waited by the shore, a flock of ducks flew by. They fired, and a duck fell. The amazing bird dog responded and jumped into the water. The dog, however, did not sink but instead walked across the water to retrieve the bird, never getting more than his paws wet.

The friend saw everything but did not say a single word. On the drive home the hunter asked his friend with pride, “So…did you notice anything unusual about my new dog?”

“I sure did,” responded his friend. “Your dog can’t swim.”

Sometimes, even when confronted with evidence to the contrary, it can be hard to believe that the miraculous is possible. It may not be a water-walking bird-dog for us (I’m pretty sure that story is false!) but it may well be some other area of our life where it is hard to believe that God can really do the miraculous.

This weekend we are going to hear the story of a young father, who is desperate to find healing for his son, but is doubtful as to whether Jesus can really do it. He says to Jesus, “Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” (Mark 9:22 NLT)

Sometimes it’s hard for us to believe that God can still heal today. But what if he can? What if God could heal you, or your friend of something that has been plaguing your life? Wouldn’t you drop everything to try?

This weekend and over the next several weeks we are going to preach a series on healing because we believe God heals today. Every week we are going to pray for God to heal people.

If you need healing, if you know someone who needs healing, or if you know someone who struggles to believe that God heals today, come this weekend and bring that person with you. I believe that when we step out in faith, God can do miraculous things.

See you this weekend.
